Dr. Joseph Kavolus is an orthopedic surgeon fellowship trained in Minimally Invasive Hip and Knee Replacement, Anterior Hip Replacement, Partial Knee Replacement, Robotic joint replacement as well as Orthopedic Trauma and Fracture Care. Dr. Kavolus joins us from Tufts Medical Center and will continue to serve on the teaching faculty as an Assistant Clinical Professor in Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Kavolus received his Undergraduate Degree from Harvard University and earned his Doctorate of Medicine along with a Masters of Clinical Research from the Medical University of South Carolina (his home state). He completed Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Duke University where he was actively involved in numerous clinical investigation and bench research projects. He subsequently completed his Hip and Knee Reconstruction and Joint Replacement fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital where he also served as a Clinical Instructor in Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Kavolus has an extensive research portfolio and has been invited to present his research nationally and internationally. He has written book chapters in Orthopedic textbooks and published numerous peer-reviewed articles in prominent medical and orthopedic journals.

Dr. Kavolus’s personal interests include traveling, food/cooking, music, golf, running, and spending time with his wife and daughters.

Dr. Kavolus practices with the patient’s goals at the forefront of their shared decision making. He is passionate about exhausting all non-operative avenues prior to resorting to surgical intervention. Once the decision for surgery is made, he ensures patients are fully optimized. He also believes in employing the latest advances in surgical technology and techniques so patients may recover faster, with better outcomes, and less pain. Dr. Kavolus finds that a holistic approach considering the patient’s unique physical condition and life-style along with a caring relationship ensures the best outcome possible.
